The Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has organized a Mid-Year Workers and Stakeholders Sensitization Programme at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday, 26th August, 2025, with the theme: “Strategic Management–Labour Collaboration: A Veritable Platform for Achieving the Aviation Ministerial Mandate.”

Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, commended the choice of the theme and expressed delight at the opportunity for management and staff to interact in pursuit of common goals.

Dr. Kana reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to human capacity development, assuring staff that opportunities for both foreign and local training would be provided to enhance performance. On staff welfare, he stressed that the well-being of workers remains paramount and pledged to ensure a more conducive work environment, particularly with the completion of the Aviation House project.

He further disclosed that the Ministry is set to go digital, with plans underway to provide computers and a stable power supply across offices. He encouraged all staff to acquire computer literacy, noting that Performance Management Systems (PMS) would form part of the criteria for promotion in the federal service.

Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Sani Bello Torankawa, in his remarks, highlighted that the importance of this year’s theme underscores the recognition of collaboration as a catalyst for driving the Ministry's objectives in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. “In achieving the Ministerial mandate, strategic synergy and harmonious relationships between Management and Unions are indispensable for realizing the 5-Point Ministerial objectives”, he stated.

He expressed optimism that the sensitisation program would positively impact the general staff and contribute to strengthening the collaborative spirit required for the effective implementation of the Aviation Ministerial mandate.

The sensitization programme featured a presentation by Dr. Henry Igbinomwanhia, who spoke on Strategic Management–Labour Collaboration: A Veritable Platform for Achieving the Aviation Ministerial Mandate.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC), Comr. Hector Nnadi, in his opening address, emphasized the need for workers to bridge the gap between the Ministry’s broad mandate and the Minister’s agenda. He stressed that the programme was not only about policies but also about workers’ welfare, collaboration, and the strengthening of dialogue between management and staff.

He called on all stakeholders to prioritize dialogue over dispute, collaboration over confrontation, and progress over politics, reaffirming the shared vision of building a stronger, fairer, and more efficient aviation sector.

In attendance were: Directors and staff of the Ministry, Union leaders, stakeholders, and the press.
