The Press and Public Affairs Unit, being a Public Strategic Communication arm of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, has the role of the spokesperson as well as image maker for the Government and the Ministry of Aviation. The Unit also serve as a vital link between the Ministry, the Nigerian Public, Media and the International communities.

FUNCTIONS

The Unit engages in effective Media Coverage, Coordination and moderation of events of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development;

  • Make arrangements for Press conferences, briefings, and interviews for the Honourable Minister.
  • Coverage of courtesy visits and meetings.
  • Works closely with the various Departments and Units in order to give proper publicity to their programmes and activities.
  • Creates fora for interactive sessions between Ministry officials/ Stakeholders and the Media.
  • Coordinates the Ministry’s correspondents from both the print and electronic Media to give adequate coverage and due publicity to the Ministry’s projects and programmes etc.
  • The Unit produces magazines and manages Newspapers for the Honourable Minister and the Ministry.
  • The Unit also issues Press Releases/Pictures and sends them to the Federal Government web portal www.nigeria.gov.ng, FGN News & Events, the Ministry of Aviation website and other social media platforms. (www.aviation.gov.ng, X, Facebook, Instagram etc).
 

ACHIEVEMENTS/INNOVATIONS

In collaboration with the Departments/Units/Parastatals; the Unit has successfully organized and covered various activities of the Ministry. Notable among the activities carried out by the Press and Public Affairs Unit are:

  • The production of the 2nd edition of the Ministry’s News Magazine, which is a Bi-Annual publication.
  • The Unit has improved the Ministry's online presence through its visibility on social media networks.
  • In furtherance of the above-stated achievements, the unit has initiated a sensitization workshop for all Directors of Public Affairs in the Ministry and her Agencies to create synergy and ensure proper reportage of the Ministerial mandate in line with Mr. President's eight priority areas.
  • The Unit has also initiated and ensured the procurement of an electronic photo-board to showcase the activities and programmes of the Ministry.
  • The Unit has also domesticated the Performance Management System (PMS) in the Unit.
