He commended the Jigawa State governor, Dr Sule Lamido on his foresight in constructing the airport as the state and neighbouring ones would continue to benefit from it long after he has ceased to be governor, noting that Governor Lamido's achievements would remain a challenge to those after him.
Minister of Aviation Osita Chidoka in his remarks, said the completion of the airport was a reflection of the true face of the Transformation Agenda in the aviation sector and said the industry has never had it so good as it has under President Jonathan.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Aviation and it's parastatals worked closely with the Jigawa State government towards the realization of the project and that there were plans to build a cargo terminal for export of agricultural produce in order to encourage large scale commercial farming.
According to Chidoka, the Ministry of Aviation will continue to provide technical and administrative support for the smooth operation of the airport to ensure that the objectives for which it was established are realized.
He further said that the increasing number of airports across the country was a consolidation of the gains of democracy as 7 out the present 22 airports in the country came into being in the last 15 years and hoped that with the enabling environment being created by the Jonathan Administration, and also the increasing number of domestic airlines, more airports would come on stream.
Jigawa State Governor, Dr Sule Lamido commended the commitment and contributions of President Jonathan towards the realization of the Dutse airport project for which he had laid the foundation and ensured its completion and commissioning.
He disclosed that he was motivated to embark on the airport project by the desire to encourage large scale production and export of agricultural produce and also the need to open up the state to foreign investments and expose its tourism potentials.
